7th Annual CRAN Symposium: A Success!

Last month we shared with you a teaser about the 7th Annual CRAN Symposium hosted in Charleston. I am pleased to report that the Symposium was a huge success! Thanks to the National Steering Committee and the local Charleston CRAN, the symposium had a record number of attendees and it even ended up being streamed online at HOUZZ.com in order to accommodate everyone interested.

I had the distinct pleasure of introducing Robert Adam, RIBA, an architect who is extremely well-known in the UK and internationally.  He is a major figure in the development of traditional and classical architecture, as a pioneer of contextual urban design, a designer of furniture, an author and a scholar. Mr. Adam spoke on the Modern Living and the Traditional House; if you are interested, a video of his presentation can be found here on YouTube.

Here are some pictures from the Oyster Roast Welcome party hosted by CRAN Charleston.

And, here are some pictures from the Overall Symposium.

7th Annual CRAN Symposium: Charleston, SC

We are delighted to welcome CRAN National to our great city this month! The local CRAN chapter has been working for over a year now getting ready for this 7th Annual Symposium and look forward to having some of the greatest names in architecture from around the nation in town.

The symposium theme is “The Architecture of Influence,” which will explore the importance of history and context in the design of new houses, and in particular how careful consideration of historical architectural styles – both traditional and Modernist – can help architects design houses that contribute to established physical and cultural settings. How a new house or building looks is fundamental to how a community responds to it, and this symposium is intended to encourage an ongoing conversation about it means to design good architectural neighbor in the 21st century. In my opinion there is no better place than Charleston for this discussion to take place!

I look forward to sharing with you the topics highlighted throughout the symposium as well as picture of the welcome oyster roast and other activities!

CRAN Charleston honored by Heroes for Fire Victims Campaign

On Wednesday, August 6th, I had the distinct privilege of representing CRAN Charleston by receiving a plaque from the American Red Cross for support of their Heroes for Fire Victims Campaign.

Along with the wonderful plaque, we also received a letter outlining how our money was used to help a lowcountry family devastated by fire. I was touched to reach the story of the fire, even see the full fire report, and hear how our gift made such an impact.

CRAN is honored to be able to support such a worthy cause and humbled to be associated with this wonderful service that the American Red Cross provides.

Here I am with Fire Chief Karen Brack at the new CFD Station #9, which opened last November.
